Assessment

(Online or in-person)

Children can struggle at home and in school for a variety of reasons. To understand the reason behind these difficulties and uncover how best to help, it’s necessary to complete a formal assessment.

Our team of professionals will help determine the best ways to support your child’s education, development, and functioning.

During an assessment, a mental health professional gathers information through standardized testing, observation and other methods for the purpose of clarifying the underlying issue.

How does assessment work?

  3. Feedback and next steps
Your psychologist will go over your results in a detailed, one-on-one feedback session, including recommendations on next steps.

Our therapist team offers…

  • ADHD Assessments
  • Autism Assessments
  • Gifted Assessments
  • Mental Health Assessments
  • Neuropsychological Assessments
  • Psychoeducational Assessments

As these assessments vary greatly in the amount of time they require for completion, the specific timing will be adjusted to suit your specific needs and wishes. The professional working with you will help to determine whether all or some of the assessment can be completed online.

Assessment appointments are paid for after each individual session and there is no need to offer a deposit.

Typically, a formal report or letter is written to document assessment results and recommendations for your records or for a third party.

Counselling

(Online or in-person)

Being a child these days can be tough. Many children are facing increased stress levels, academic and social challenges at school, and mental health problems that interfere with their overall level of well-being. Counselling can help.

Counselling is participating in dialogue and receiving advice from a mental health professional, where different tools and strategies are developed for coping with trauma and daily life stressors.

We have a team of mental health professionals that provide a confidential and safe space to work through a wide-range of concerns, including (but not limited to):

  • Addictions
  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Attention Problems
  • Depression
  • Divorce
  • Family Stress
  • Relationship Issues
  • School Stress
  • Social Challenges

Most clients see a notable reduction in their stress levels and the specific problem area(s) within only a few sessions. Our mental health professionals offer flexible schedules that allow many clients to receive this service outside typical school hours.

Each appointment is usually booked as a 50-minute session.

Speech & Language Therapy

(Online or in-person)

Speech-language therapy is used to identify, diagnose and treat communication and swallowing disorders and other speech-language related concerns across a person’s lifespan.

Most commonly, these services are provided to children and teens, although adults may benefit as well.

Areas that speech-language therapy addresses include…

  • Speech sounds—how we say sounds and put sounds together into words.
  • Language—how well we understand what we hear or read and how we use words to tell others what we are thinking.
  • Literacy—how well we read and write. People with speech and language disorders may also have trouble reading, spelling, and writing.
  • Social communication—how well we follow rules, like taking turns, how to talk to different people, or how close to stand to someone when talking.
  • Voice—how our voices sound. We may sound hoarse, lose our voices easily, talk too loudly or through our noses, or be unable to make sounds.
  • Fluency—also called stuttering, is how well speech flows. Many young children will go through a time when they stutter, though most outgrow it.
  • Cognitive-communication—how well our minds work. Problems may involve memory, attention, problem solving, organization, and other thinking skills.
  • Feeding and swallowing—how well we suck, chew, and swallow food and liquid. A swallowing disorder may lead to poor nutrition, weight loss, and other health problems.
