Tom Zaniecki

Registered Social Worker

Tom has over 20 years of experience in counselling various client groups, in non-profit sector, mental health, developmental disabilities and youth justice. He is a graduate of Loma Linda University in California with Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. He is trained in all systemic theories (structural, family systems, narrative, experiential, brief solution focus and attachment theory), and “non-systemic” therapeutic approaches (Dialect Behavioural Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing).

Tom is a Registered Social Worker in Alberta since 2001 and he practices in a client supportive and non-oppressive manner, believing that clients have a right to make their choices, living the way that leads to their fulfillment and happiness. He is keenly aware of multiculturalism and societal silencing of minorities. He strives to give voice to their wishes and needs they seek. His clients are encouraged to request therapy that fits their needs in what is discussed and when, and how the process needs to be shaped.

Tom provides positive and unconditional regard towards all his clients as persons requiring respect, empathy, validation and support in their current difficulties. His role is assisting all clients in discovery of their strengths and healthy coping strategies, problem solving, validating their goals, analyzing pros and cons, and supporting them as they carry them out.

Tom’s special interests are: searching for meaning, spirituality, stress management, loss and grief processing, trauma recovery, anxiety and depression, addictions and harm reduction, promoting of healthy relationships through clear communication and strong boundaries.
