Michelle Poon

Michelle is a Registered Psychologist in Alberta. She obtained her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at City University of Seattle’s Calgary Campus.

Michelle started her career in the not-for-profit sector where she worked with clients in home and long-term care settings, particularly with children and teens with behavioural disorders. During this time, she gained extensive experience supporting parents and working with clients experiencing oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder. Michelle also began working in private practice in 2019 where she has worked with a diverse range of clients and their concerns.

Michelle has formal training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She also draws from a number of other evidence-based therapeutic modalities including play-based approaches, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and other trauma-informed techniques.

Michelle provides individual, group, and family counselling to children, adolescents, and adults with a range of different issues. She has been trained to conduct assessments with adults to identify problems such as ADHD, learning disabilities, and mental health conditions. Michelle offers clients skillful and practical strategies aimed at cultivating real change. She believes strongly in working collaboratively with support systems to promote overall positive well-being.
