Dr. Marisa Van Bavel
I am a registered psychologist and hold a PhD in School and Applied Child Psychology from the University of Calgary. My graduate research focused on the strengths and resilience of Indigenous youth, with an emphasis on community-based programming and culturally rooted mental health supports.
With over eight years of applied experience, I began my career supporting youth in group care by fostering a safe and nurturing environment. This invaluable work shaped the core values I carry into my practice today—empowerment, compassion, social justice, and equity. My expertise spans psychological assessments, school-based interventions, and consultation with children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in supporting individuals with mood and anxiety disorders, giftedness, and neurodevelopmental differences such as Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Developmental Disorder, and Learning Disorders.
Assessments are a significant investment of time and energy, and I take great pride in ensuring the process is comfortable, meaningful, and provides answers to questions you may have wondered about for years. My approach is strengths-based and collaborative, ensuring that every client feels heard and supported throughout their journey.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors hiking and running. I also love exploring local coffee shops and used bookstores.
