John Laing
John is a Registered Psychologist who completed his graduate training at the University of Calgary. John’s particular areas of interest are working with parents, youth/children, and individual adults who are having difficulty meeting their own goals because of issues related to ADHD, anxiety, depression, life stressors, family conflict, oppositional behavior and conduct problems, as well as trauma.
John began his career providing family-based mental health assessments and counselling to children, adolescents, and parents receiving support through a community-based treatment program. He also became known in the education system, as well as in private practice, for his work with caregivers, teens, and children who have ADHD and/or who exhibit significant lagging executive functioning skills. Throughout John’s time of working in education, he has developed expertise in conducting psychoeducational, mental health and behavioral assessments, as well as in developing recommendations for student support plans.
John is often called to provide psychological consultation to teachers, school administrators, medical and mental health professionals, as well as parents. He is a revered public speaker in the areas of mental health and academic research.
John lives with his common-law partner, Hollie, and their two young children in Airdrie, John enjoys being active, including playing hockey, spending time outdoors with his family, and going on motorcycle trips with his family and friends each summer.
